Global Growth

As AltPayNet celebrates its 10th anniversary on November 24, 2025, we look back on a decade shaped by the simple mission to promote financial inclusion across the Filipino diaspora.

We’re proud to say we’ve stayed true to that mission. From enabling borderless transactions to empowering businesses with white-label solutions, AltPayNet has steadily evolved into a trusted global white-label payments partner with 235+ direct merchants worldwide.

Collaborations with the Social Security System (SSS), Local Government Units (LGUs), and local banks have also positioned us as a reliable player in the Philippine digital payments landscape.

And while the tech grew, so did the people who built it. Today, we reflect on ten years of breaking barriers in payments, and the team that made it possible.

A trip down memory lane

AltPayNet’s story began with the purpose of creating payment systems that solve real problems, quickly drawing in partners and communities who resonated with it.

In a conversation with AltPayNet’s CEO and Founder, Don Vacal, he explained that there was real value in providing payment services, via a core platform, “...that are thorough and universal, where we can modify solutions around, and that are unique to a specific jurisdiction or country.”

One of the company’s earliest milestones was a partnership with the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation in 2017, a non-profit organization in the Philippines that provides boats to children in poverty-stricken areas, ensuring they have access to education and that “no Filipino kid is left behind.”

This collaboration set a culture of uplifting communities, not just industries, and established purpose-led innovation that still guides the company’s work today.

From 2016 to 2019, the AltPayNet team introduced solutions like TLPE, e-Snapped, Kloudhouse, Pago de Caridad, the APN Gateway Plug-in, and Billeroo—platforms that met the cashless transition early-on.

Growth driven by innovation

Our co-founders, Don Vacal and Majorie “Maj” Labindao, attended the second Philippine Hospitality Summit in 2019. It was a moment that allowed e-Snapped, an e-invoicing platform, to truly make an impression in an industry once overrun by paper waste.

In the same year, the company gained international recognition upon being listed under the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the UK’s financial regulatory body, which proved instrumental in increasing the company’s credibility and reach worldwide.

New doors opened, and in 2020, AltPayNet became an acquirer for Diners Club and Discover, strengthening its card acceptance network by allowing clients and merchants the acceptance of Discover, Diners Club International, and affiliate network cards.

“Our mission is to take away the technical, compliance, and operational burdens amongst enterprises, so they can focus on things that really matter to them—sales and relationship management,” said Vacal.

Soon after, new partnerships with GCash, GrabPay, and UnionPay solidified its reputation as a partner that understands the complex needs of modern commerce, as these integrations made money movement more interoperable.

Tech that puts the Filipino diaspora first

More than a few of AltPayNet’s solutions were born from a desire to make digital payments accessible to Filipinos worldwide. The launch of Billeroo, a white-label biller platform, is a prime example of this.

It empowers businesses and government agencies like the Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG, and the Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO) to offer their members, no matter where they are, hassle-free payments and lower fees in one payment platform.

In the same vein, our team had noticed a glaring gap in Philippine digital payments. Nearly half of Filipino adults remain unbanked, a population largely found in rural and coastal areas where poor connectivity and reliance on cash are common.

AltPayNet, in collaboration with Crunchfish, responded to that imbalance by creating an offline-capable wallet that converts offline transactions into online settlements once connectivity is restored.

In October 2025, Vacal featured as a speaker in a fireside chat hosted by Crunchfish CEO, Joachim Samuelsson, on the Sibos Discover Stage in Frankfurt, Germany to bring this pioneering technology to the forefront.

Vacal highlighted the necessity of resilient payment systems and shared, “The Philippines is a uniquely challenging market for payments due to its geography and frequent natural disasters. Our partnership with Crunchfish allows us to deliver uninterrupted digital payment solutions…even when connectivity or power is disrupted.”

AltPayNet goes global

AltPayNet has had an impressive run over the years, not just through technology but through the global conversations started. In 2023, AltPayNet joined the Philippine delegation in a Collision Conference, aka the “Olympics of Tech” and “North America’s fastest-growing tech conference."

Here, the most exciting startups, keynote speakers, and Fortune 500 companies were in attendance to platform leading Filipino-centered innovations.

While the year isn’t quite over, 2025 is already proving to be one of the most fruitful ones yet. A standout milestone took place in the world’s largest fintech event held in Bangkok. This is where co-founder, Maj Labindao, took the Money 20/20 stage and spotlighted AltPayNet’s industry-specific platforms.

Global expansion followed naturally as the company secured its official Canada registration as a Foreign Money Services Business (FMSB) with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC).⁣⁣

Canada, home to one of the largest Filipino communities worldwide, stands as a vital market for AltPayNet’s growth.

“This brings us closer to our vision of making AltPayNet a premier Filipino-owned global payment network, serving the Filipino diaspora and beyond,” said Vacal.

Looking forward: What’s next for AltPayNet?

As AltPayNet celebrates a decade of breakthroughs, we look ahead to a future of untapped potential. With emerging technologies, stronger global partnerships, and a dedicated drive toward inclusive financial services, AltPayNet is ready to shape the next era of digital payments.

Thank you to our partners, clients, collaborators, and the incredible team behind every milestone.

Here’s to ten years of breaking barriers and to many more years of improving payments with curiosity and purpose.
